Kindergarten Paul Klee Paintings

Kindergarten artists at Georgetown Elementary learned about the Swiss painter Paul Klee. They viewed his painting entitled “Castle and Sun” and discovered that he liked to use many shapes in his paintings. After identifying geometric shapes in the painting, the Kindergarteners created their own castles  and suns using the same shapes.

Kindergarten artists learned they can print shapes using every day objects like cardboard and cups. After the shapes were printed and dried, they added color using watercolor paints.

Bauer Elementary: Pre-Kindergarten Snowy Shape Houses

Pre-Kindergarten artists learned all about shapes during this cut and paste project. We named and identified basic geometric shapes including squares, rectangles, and triangles. Students practiced making a square by cutting a rectangle to make it shorter, and learned how to make two rectangles by cutting a square. They also practiced making a triangle by cutting a square from corner to corner. Students followed multi-step directions as they arranged their shapes for the house, and then added their own windows and doors and trees to complete their winter scene! Finally, the snowy prints were made by placing their project on painted bubble wrap and peeling it off to make a print! They did such a wonderful job!

Bauer Elementary: Second Grade Leaf Prints

Second grade students at Bauer Elementary learned about printmaking by viewing examples of print art, and discussing where we might see prints in everyday life. Some examples the students mentioned include footprints in sand, fingerprints on windows, and animal tracks along a trail. 

Next, they demonstrated this technique using realistic leaf stamps. Students carefully painted the stamps, turned them over, and “tip-toed” with their fingertips to ensure the print was evenly transferred!

Once the prints dried, we identified and discussed warm colors. Second graders used "warm" colored pencils, plus a touch of brown, to create a few colorful leaves adding a nice touch to their beautiful print art! 

To complete the project, each child took turns visiting their peers' tables and complimenting them on their artwork. Students were encouraged to use art vocabulary from the lesson. They did a fabulous job and enjoyed this very much! A few compliments I heard were, "I like how you used different warm colors on each leaf," and "This is my favorite leaf print on your paper." Way to go second graders!
