The Scream

Fourth grade used the program "Acorn" to create their own versions of "The Scream," by Edvard Munch!

Acorn is a simplified (and somewhat glitchy) version of Photoshop. It is great to use with older elementary students because it is so close to Photoshop.

Learning Goals: I can...
- Create a file in Acorn that is US Letter sized
- Use Google Drive to download "The Scream" from a shared folder
- Use Preview to open "The Scream" and to pick colors from the original artwork "The Scream"
- Use Acorn tools and modify size and opacity: Paint brush, bucket, smudge, eraser, eyedropper
- Use Photo Booth to take a picture and insert it into Acorn
- Use layers and change visibility
- Convert Acorn file to JPEG
- Drop JPEG into a shared google folder to submit it.

Park Elementary: 4th and 5th Grade Op Art

It's great to be back. The day really flies by when working with the kids in art. The first and last project of the day has been a fun one with 4th and 5th grade learning about optical illusions and tricking the eye with the use of depth perception, pattern, lines, and pushing value with their shading. 

As the 5th and 4th graders are finishing up their Op art project they are really getting into it! They are having a fun time posing for a photo that they will use to complete their optical illusion. They have really been taking pride in their work as they finish their art projects. I can't wait to see all the pieces come together!

Georgetown Elementary: Kindergarten Paul Klee

Kindergarten Paul Klee Cats

The Kindergarten artists at Georgetown Elementary have been busy learning about the Swiss painter, Paul Klee. Paul Klee’s paintings were very childlike with bright colors like the color he saw when he visited Africa.

                                       

 His famous painting entitled Cat and Bird was the inspiration for this project.

After following multi-step instructions for drawing their cat and bird, Kindergarteners chose bright watercolor paint and practiced their painting skills to add color to their cats. They finished their paintings by using a very small paintbrush to outline their lines with black paint. Awesome job Kindergarteners! You have really brightened our hallways at Georgetown.

Jamestown Elementary: 4th Grade Abstract Kandinsky Murals

4th grade artists studied the abstract art of Wassily Kandinsky. The learned about his life and artwork. They even learned about a strange condition that he had called synesthesia cognate. This condition is one that a person's senses get mixed up and he/she can hear colors and see sounds. Because of this, he would always paint while listening to music. We worked individually to create our own personal abstract artworks while listening to music. We then as a group, worked together to choose a color scheme and combine our smaller works into collaborative large abstract murals!

Bauer Elementary: Pre-Kindergarten Snowy Shape Houses

Pre-Kindergarten artists learned all about shapes during this cut and paste project. We named and identified basic geometric shapes including squares, rectangles, and triangles. Students practiced making a square by cutting a rectangle to make it shorter, and learned how to make two rectangles by cutting a square. They also practiced making a triangle by cutting a square from corner to corner. Students followed multi-step directions as they arranged their shapes for the house, and then added their own windows and doors and trees to complete their winter scene! Finally, the snowy prints were made by placing their project on painted bubble wrap and peeling it off to make a print! They did such a wonderful job!
